Takapuna FC Round-up 2008 - 9/8/08
Takapuna
had the chance on Saturday to bring a treble of trophies
home to Onewa as their U21's played a plate Final v ECB, the
Senior 1st's Played a Plate Final v Massey and the Premiers
could win Championship number eleven if they won v North
Shore.
It would be the U21's who would get the day off to a winning
way with a 13 - 6 win over ECB. The game was a tight affair
with some good passages of play from both teams. ECB had
only 15 players but to their credit they played their part
in an entertaining game and at times the game looked to be
slipping away from them, they would dig deep and come back
at Takapuna. There was a definite sense of relief when the
final try was scored for Takapuna to take the game to a 7
point lead and the whoops of celebration at the end
suggested the boys were happy to finish the season on a
high. The game was marred by a serious jaw injury to Greg
Plesants-Tate, and all at the club wish him well on his
recovery.
The Senior 1st's carried on the winning ways by demolishing
Massey in what was a very one sided game. The final result
was around 74-5 (TBC) but was just reward for the Senior
1st's season. At times they played a brand and style of
rugby that showed that the strength and depth at Takapuna
was there for all to see, with good strong forwards and
backs capable of attacking from all areas of the pitch.
Congratulations to all involved with the Senior 1st's.
Takapuna were two from two with the big one to come! Roared
on by their support, they took on one of their fiercest
rivals in the form of North Shore. North Shore had the
better of the exchanges during the season and must have been
confident. The Takapuna team had the kind of finals
experience that you just can't buy and so it would prove to
be a big factor in the game. A devastating first 20 minutes
from Takapuna effectively ended the tie as contest and found
Takapuna racing into a 24 - 0 lead. The game in the second
half was more of a contest but Takapuna ran out worthy
winners 30 - 12. The third trophy of the day was coming back
to Takapuna and real credit goes to all involved with the
Premiers. The coaches and management worked hard to produce
the type of team capable of winning the Championship and the
players stood up when it really mattered and delivered, what
many are regarding as Takapuna's best finals performance for
a number of years. Needless to say, Saturday night was a big
night for many at Takapuna.
Congratulations to all coaches, managers and players of all
the Takapuna teams. You continue to support the club and
offer playing opportunities to all levels.
See you all next year.
